‘Halloween’ Reboot Adds Judy Greer As Jamie Lee Curtis’ Daughter | Film News

Having recently added legendary scream queen and original Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis to the reboot of the famous 1978 film, David Gordon Green‘s Halloween has now added Judy Greer to the cast, to play the daughter of Curtis’ Laurie Strode, Karen.

While Curtis is 58 and Greer is 42 and at their real ages it’s possible the mother-daughter alignment works, the film will likely alter their ages slightly. Although no plot details have been released, and the film is certainly choosing to retcon pretty much all the sequels (obviously because, spoiler alert, Laurie is killed in Halloween: Resurrection), so it’s possible in the new canon she had a daughter at 16.

In the original sequels, Laurie also had a daughter named Jamie Lloyd, who was the main protagonist in the fourth and fifth films when the franchise and genre was in a hole before Scream came along to revitalise the whole genre and leading to the original semi-reboot, Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, which also ignored most of the sequels and gave Laurie a son, John.

So technically Karen is Laurie’s third child, though the previous two actually didn’t exist. Couple that with the fact that she’s been chased by a knife-wielding maniac since her teenage years, and it’s easy to see why Laurie might be a little psychologically damaged.

Green is co-writing the script with Danny McBride, and the duo are set on making a film ‘inspired’ by John Carpenter‘s classic (Carpenter is a creative consultant on the film), intending to “craft a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film”.

Green and McBride are an interesting partnership, with both having dabbled in various genres throughout their careers. Usually a reboot of a classic film is met with groans and eye-rolls, but this has potential to be something interesting.

With Carpenter on board in some way, as well as now Greer and original star Curtis, excitement is quietly brewing for next year’s Halloween, when the film arrives on October 19, 2018.
