Henry Golding To Star Alongside Dakota Johnson In Netflix Film ‘Persuasion’ | Film News

Malaysian actor Henry Golding has been cast alongside Dakota Johnson in the Netflix film adaptation of Jane Austen‘s novel Persuasion.

The Crazy Rich Asian actor will play Mr Elliot and Dakota Johnson will play Anne Elliot, his cousin. In this adaptation, Anne lives with her snobbish family on the verge of bankruptcy. When Frederick Wentworth, an old acquaintance she had previously rejected, reenters her life, Anne must make a choice between leaving the past behind or making room for a second chance.

Henry Golding made his name with his role in the hit film Crazy Rich Asian. He went on to star in romantic comedies such as Last Christmas with Emilia Clarke and A Simple Favor.

Persuasion will be directed by Carrie Cracknell, who will be making her first step behind the camera. The screenplay is written by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow and is of course based on the work of Jane Austen.

It is the last novel the writer wrote before her death in 1817. It has in the past already been adapted for the screen, most notably in a 2017 TV movie starring Sally Hawkins, and more recently, another adaptation is also in the works at Searchlight Pictures.

For this adaptation by Netflix and MRC Film, the studio behind Knives Out and The Lovebirds, we do not yet know the release date.
