Hilary Swank To Star In ‘Before She Disappeared’ TV Series

Hilary Swank has been cast as the lead in Before She Disappeared, a dramatic thriller series based on Lisa Gardner‘s novel of the same name.

Swank will play Frankie Elkin, a recovering alcoholic who spends her life doing what no one else will; searching for missing people the world has stopped looking for. When the police have given up, when the public no longer remembers, when the media has never paid attention, Frankie starts looking.

It’s unclear right now whether the first season of the show will follow the events of the titular book – which sees Frankie searching for Angelique Badeau, a Haitian teenager who vanished from her high school months earlier – or whether that will just be used as a jumping off point.

Gardner is no stranger to having her work adapted for the screen, with her books Hide, Instinct To Kill, At The Midnight House and The Survivors Club all being turned into TV series.

The timing of the Before She Disappeared series announcement is a good one too, as the sequel book, One Step Too Far, is due out in January 2022.

Despite being a two-time Academy Award winner, Swank has found more success in TV in recent years. She produced and starred in Netflix series Away, which revolved around the first human expedition to Mars, while she’ll soon be starring in an untitled Alaskan-set drama for ABC being helmed by Tom McCarthy (Spotlight, Stillwater).

There’s no word on what network Before She Disappeared will air on, but mystery shows usually perform quite well, so expect every channel and streaming platform to be interested in this one.
