Ricky Whittle, of former Hollyoaks and The 100 fame, has landed himself a new role as Shadow Moon in the upcoming Neil Gaiman adaptation of his hit novel American Gods. The novel, which follows a war between the old and new gods, begin to lose followers due to the modern age’s worship of love, money and celebrity. Whittle is now set to play the protagonist who travels with Mr.Wednesday in order to recruit forces to battle these new gods.

Gaiman has said that he is ‘thrilled that Ricky has been cast as Shadow. His auditions were remarkable. The process of taking a world out of the pages of a book, and putting it onto the screen has begun. I’m delighted that Ricky will get to embody Shadow.’

The American Gods series will be produced by Starz and Fremantlemedia North America. It is due to start filming in April.
