The rumour mill has been going nuts over the speculation of who will be the next Bond, and fans went nuts when they heard Idris Elba was in the mix. The British actor, who started his career in television, has knocked up an impressive CV with recent hits like Prometheus, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, Thor: Dark World and up and coming roles in Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Jungle Book and Finding Dory. The Luther star took to his Twitter yesterday to respond to the flying rumors that he’d be the next Bond, James Bond – replacing current special agent Daniel Craig; “Isn’t 007 supposed to handsome? Glad you think I’ve got a shot! Happy New year people”. Could Elba be any breezier about it?
The response arrives after recent criticism from the likes of Rush Limbaugh that scoffed at the idea of a Bond that wasn’t “white and Scottish” on his radio show earlier this month. Nobody asked you, Limbaugh. Personally, I’d love to see Elba rocking a Craig-like pair of blue Speedo’s for the next Bond and in all seriousness, he’s a knock out performer that has enough charm and wit about him to fit well into the character. Still, while we’re only privy to rumours right now, we’ll have to wait and see.
