International Rap Artist PsychoYP Unveils Double A-Side ‘Midlife Crisis’ And ‘WYDTM’

PsychoYP is one of the pioneers and leaders of the new wave of rap and hip-hop music in Nigeria. He has recently been crowned by The Native as the best rapper in Africa, and he just released a new double a-side single titled “Midlife Crisis” and “WYDTM”, produced by Dylan Scott aka SCXTT, who has been collaborating with PsychoYP for years.

As a result of an infectious melodic rap flow, lush piano arrangements, and ethereal trap harmonies, “Midlife Crisis” finds PsychoYP waxing lyrical about falling for an older woman, who might be experiencing a midlife crisis. While “WYDTM” is more uptempo, it’s a collaboration with fellow Apex Village artist Azanti that focuses on spending your way out of heartbreak.

The song “Midlife Crisis” was inspired by “My intention was to convey the type of relationship we are dealing with at the moment. There are broken people coming together and seeking something special. An older woman falls for a young boy in ‘Midlife Crisis’. A bond is formed between them out of their need to escape and their desire for intimacy“, according to PsychoYP.

On the other hand, “WYDTM” comes from PsychoYP being a student of the game and being inspired by UK music and various black music styles. On this occasion, he said about the inspiration:

My older siblings and I grew up listening to Craig David when I was much younger and we lived with my mum in the UK. The vibes of this song are pure vibes. I just had to get Apex Village prodigy Azanti to contribute the garage tune to this upbeat track about turning to material possessions to cope with heartbreak“.
