Is The ‘Mean Girls’ Musical Really Happening? | Events

Mean Girls: The Musical was originally due in summer, but the production is still in the works. In a recent interview with Digital Spy, its star and screenplay writer Tina Fey assured readers that the musical was nearly complete, before adding that she and her composer husband Jeff Richmond would return to finish off the project in the New Year.

Cult film Mean Girls featured Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron, the new high-schooler who faces off against The trio – a group of literal mean girls who want to be top dogs – and falls for one of their ex-boyfriends. Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert starred as the cliquey trio Regina, Karen and Gretchen. Amy Poehler, Fey’s comedy partner in recently released comedy Sisters, played Regina’s mother.

When asked whether the musical would be announced, or opened, on October 3 (Mean Girls day), Fey acknowledged that it was a good idea. Will Mean Girls: The Musical open on October 3, 2016, or any time in the near future? Who can say!
