Jaden Smith To Star In Skateboarding Movie From ‘The Wolfpack’ Director Crystal Moselle | Film News

Crystal Moselle, director of the acclaimed documentary The Wolfpack, will make her narrative feature debut with a film about the female skateboarding scene in New York City.

Jaden Smith has been cast alongside Elizabeth Rodriguez (Orange Is The New Black), and the duo will lead a team of real life female skateboarders known collectively as Skate Kitchen, who Moselle met recently while filming a documentary short.

The as-yet untitled project will follow Camille, a lonely teenager in the suburbs of New York whose life changes when she befriends a group of female skateboarders. While diving deeper into a thriving subculture, Camille begins to make decisions that lead to a deeper understanding of herself.

Moselle wrote the screenplay alongside Aslihan Unaldi and Jennifer Silverman.

The Wolfpack surprised everyone when it burst out of nowhere to be awarded the U.S. Documentary Grand Jury Prize at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.

Considering Moselle was able to dive deep into the fascinating lives of the homeschooled boys who learned about the world by watching films, hopefully she got similar access to Skate Kitchen and the skateboarding subculture in order to make another film which focuses on an absorbing group of individuals.

A release date and further details are still yet to arrive but expect Moselle’s film to come with high expectations.
