Jared Leto Goes ‘Method’ For Joker Role, Sends ‘Suicide Squad’ Cast Terrifying Gifts | Film News

Jared Leto is set to play the latest version of Batman’s terrifying nemesis in the upcoming Suicide Squad film, and it seems that he’s using method acting to get in character. His co-star Adam Beach, revealed that he’d sent a number of creepy gifts to his co-stars. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said that Leto gave Margot Robbie, who will be playing the Joker’s girlfriend Harley Quinn, a live rat. Will Smith received a number of bullets and the rest of the cast a “dead hog” and a video of Leto in character telling them he wished he could be there.

Leto isn’t the only actor who’s got to grips with The Jokers twisted mind, reportedly Heath Ledger went to extreme lengths to get in touch with the harlequin of hate. Speaking to Empire Magazine before the release of The Dark Knight, Ledger said: “I sat around in a hotel room in London for about a month, locked myself away, formed a little diary and experimented with voices – it was important to try to find a somewhat iconic voice and laugh. I ended up landing more in the realm of a psychopath – someone with very little to no conscience towards his acts“.

After reiterating his view of the character as “just an absolute sociopath, a cold-blooded, mass-murdering clown“, Ledger added that Nolan had given him “free rein” to create the role, which he found “fun, because there are no real boundaries to what the Joker would say or do. Nothing intimidates him, and everything is a big joke“. Warner Bros. Pictures releases Suicide Squad on August 5, 2016.
