Jay-Z, Tiffany Haddish And More To Take Part In Harry Belafonte’s Virtual Birthday Party | Culture
On March 1, legendary activist, singer and actor Harry Belafonte will celebrate his 94th birthday, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, a virtual fundraising birthday party put together by his organization Gathering For Justice to celebrate his birthday will be held on February 28.
Titled ‘The Gathering of Harry’, the party will feature a good portion of celebrity friends and admirers like Jay-Z, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Usher, Danny Glover, Tiffany Haddish and others.
Harry Belafonte founded the Gathering For Justice organization in 2005 after learning of a 5-year-old Black girl who was cuffed and arrested in a Florida classroom for being unruly. In general, their goal is to build a movement in order to end child incarceration while working to eradicate racial injustice.
The Birthday event is sponsored by philanthropist and investor Robert F. Smith and his espouse Hope. The party will include performances, video tributes, testimonials by civil rights and racial justice leaders, artists, athletes and many more.
Moreover, viewers will also be able to catch appearances from Alfre Woodard, Chuck D, Bernie, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tamika D., Jane Sanders. The virtual event will be held on February 28 at 7 PM EST.
The event has received a huge attention in media due to Jay-Z’s appearance, who will also be accepting ‘The Gatekeeper Of Truth Awards’ for his support to organisers on the frontlines during the current political climate and his inspiration to multiple generations.
