Jessica Chastain In Talks For ‘IT’ Sequel | Film News

Well, this is quite unsurprising. After months of interest expressed on both sides, Jessica Chastain is now officially in talks for the IT sequel. Chastain starred in director Andy Muschietti‘s 2013 film Mama, and fans have long seen her as the perfect person to play the adult version of Beverly, which is exactly the role she’s in talks for.

Variety first reported, and stressed that “sources stress that negotiations are early and that the script is still being worked on, but both sides have officially begun discussing her coming on to the project”. Muschietti himself isn’t yet officially signed on to direct the sequel, but his involvement is heavily expected.

Bill Skarsgard (Pennywise) and the child actors will all return for the sequel, which will pick up thirty years after the first film and follows the Derry kids as adults, who must now return to their hometown when the horror of their childhood reignites once more.

Getting Chastain is a great coup since she’s one of the best actors working today. With her now likely on board, the question turns to what other stars can the film get to play the adults? IT made over $700 million at the box office, so the sequel will likely be an equally big deal, and there is probably a chance that we get an absolutely stacked cast in Chapter 2.

That would be very exciting. Though nothing has been finalised yet, Chastain would likely find time on her schedule to begin filming late this year, or potentially early 2019, depending on how much post-production work is required. She’ll next be seen in X-Men: Dark Phoenix later this year, and also recently signed on to star alongside Octavia Spencer in a Planes, Trains & Automobiles-type comedy.

IT: Chapter 2 is currently scheduled for release on September 6, 2019.
