Joan Shelley and Daniel Martin Moore chillingly performed an acoustic version of “First of August” back in 2012, and the song now appears in all of its CDQ glory on Shelley’s newest album, Electric Ursa, which was officially released this past Tuesday. This acoustic based song has peaked in popularity of tracks from the record. Its moping drums and crying keys give this song a simultaneously lonely and hopeful feel, which is both intriguing and appealing.
