Joel Kinnaman To Replace Tom Hardy As Rick Flag In ‘Suicide Suad’ | Film News

While nothing’s been officially confirmed yet, sources are expecting Warner Brothers to replace Tom Hardy with Robocop star Joel Kinnaman for the role as Rick Flag in Marvel‘s up and coming Suicide Squad movie. The Wrap claim that multiple sources have sited the exciting news, seeing Kinnaman step into the coveted role!

Hardy was first choice to star alongside Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevinge as part of the anti-hero group The Suicide Squad. How To Get Away With Murder star Viola Davis was later added to the cast as Amanda Waller and then Jesse Eisenberg was confirmed to reprise his role as Lex Luther. Disaster struck when Hardy bailed and Warner Bros looked to the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal to replace him, with Gyllenhaal politely declining the offer, Warner Bros were back to the drawing board and now it appears Kinnaman is the answer!

I love this choice for Rock Flag, I’m a huge fan of Kinnaman and his work in the American version of The Killing. He’s already got an impressive career in his native home of Sweden and has branched globally to appear in the likes of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Child 44 and the up and coming Liam Neeson movie, Run All Night. While the Robocop reboot was less than impressive, he’s proved himself to be suitable for leading man material, not to mention some serious guns, and his emotional performance as detective Stephen Holder in The Killing was exceptional.

If this casting rumour is true, I’ll be delighted! Director David Ayer is set to begin filming soon with Ayer sharing a lot of news on Twitter. Fingers crossed this leads the casting to be complete and shooting can get underway! Suicide Squad is set to hit theatres on August 5, 2016.
