John Boyega Gives Fans A ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ Sneak Peek | Film News

John Boyega has generously given fans the first look at Pacific Rim: Uprising by uploading a picture of himself in character on his Twitter page!

Boyega will play Jake Pentecost, the son of Stacker Pentecost (played by Idris Elba in the first film) and a jaeger pilot like his dad. The picture shared doesn’t show him suited up, but fans were quick to guess that his character is deep in thought, contemplating the apocalypse central to the original, Pacific Rim (2013).

The follow-up to Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim will bring back some of the characters from the original film, including Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi), Gottlieb (Burn Gorman) and Newt (Charlie Day). However, the focus will be largely on a new cast. Cailee Spaeny, Scott Eastwood, Tian Jing, Mackenyu and Jin Zhang have all confirmed their attachment to the project as well.

Guillermo del Toro has been replaced by Steven S. DeKnight as director, though he remains on board as a producer for the film. DeKnight is famous for his work on Netflix’s hit show, Daredevil.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is currently being filmed but you can expect to see the sci-fi action movie in theatres February 2018! If you’re itching to see some more of Boyega, don’t worry. He’s just come out in Netflix’s indie drama Imperial Dreams and will return to the big screen this year with Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
