Johnny Rotten Of Sex Pistols Calls Green Day “Turgid” | Music News

“Embarrassing” was one of the words used to describe Green Day by the Sex Pistols icon Johnny Rotten. He has said in recent interview with the New York Times, that the world famous punk rock band was “embarrassing”.

The former star of Sex Pistols further added that: “It is embarrassing, really. How many bands are out there like Green Day now? I look at them, and I just have to laugh. They’re coat hangers, you know. A turgid version of something that doesn’t actually belong to them.” This can furthermore confirm that he is REALLY not a fan of the band, as he also told the Rolling Stone back in 2015.

He also referred punk to the New York Times as “caricature”, but also went on to have a go at the Rap culture saying that rap is the “Perfect way to sell sneakers”.

The punk rock legend had already lashed out at Green Day once before back in 2006 by saying that: “Green Day are not punk. They’re not, they’re plonk and they’re bandwagoning on something they didn’t come up with themselves. I think they are phony.”

The Rock and Roll hall of famers Green Day have created some of the biggest hits of the late 90’s and early 2000’s, such as “Basket Case“, “American Idiot” and “21 Guns“.
