Jon Hamm Joins Natalie Portman In Space Drama ‘Pale Blue Dot’ | Film News

Jon Hamm is in final negotiations to star alongside Natalie Portman in Fox Searchlight’s upcoming astronaut drama, Pale Blue Dot, per Variety. Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley will direct the film from a script by Brian C. Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi. Reese Witherspoon, who was previously attached to star, will produce.

The film follows a successful female astronaut who starts to mentally unravel after returning to Earth from a mission in space. Ostensibly she has a perfect life, but the film looks to explore the theory that astronauts who spend long periods of time in space lose their sense of reality once they return home.

Hamm will reportedly play Portman’s fellow astronaut who she aggressively pursues after returning to Earth.

Hamm, who is best known for playing Don Draper on Mad Men, has been attempting to branch out into various film roles since the show ended. He appeared in Edgar Wright‘s Baby Driver while also appearing in arthouse fair such as Marjorie Prime and Nostalgia. He’s currently filming Bad Times At The El Royale alongside Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges.

With Portman and Hamm now on board, Pale Blue Dot is quickly adding itself to many cinephile’s most anticipated lists. With Legion wrapped and Fargo not shooting until next year, Hawley has plenty of time to shoot the film, which is reportedly expected to begin in the spring.
