Julianne Moore & Jill Soloway Team For ‘Mothertrucker’ | Film News

Transparent creator Jill Soloway has signed on to write and direct an adaptation of Amy Butcher‘s upcoming memoir Mothertrucker. Julianne Moore is on board to star, and the project is being set up at Makeready.

Butcher is an award winning essayist and author, and Mothertrucker chronicles her chance friendship with Joy Mothertrucker, a fifty-year-old Instagram celebrity and America’s only female ice road trucker. She spent 13 years driving big rigs through the “the deadliest road in America”.

Inspired by Joy’s optimism and bravery in the face of danger, Amy flies to Alaska and joins her on an incredible journey through the heart of the Alaskan wilderness. The book focuses on two determined women finding solace and strength in each other, in the unforgiving outdoors.

Moore will play Mothertrucker. The studio is reportedly developing the Amy role as a starring vehicle for another top actress. Soloway said of the project: “I’m honoured to tell this deeply resonant story about two women finding meaning and strength as they face an epic challenge in one of the most punishing and beautiful landscapes on the planet”.

With her award-winning show Transparent soon coming to an end in the form of The Transparent Movie Musicale Finale on Amazon, Soloway has been in demand. On top of this project, back in June she signed on to write and direct Red Sonja for Millennium Films after the firing of Bryan Singer.

If she can bring the same quiet beauty from Transparent to Mothertrucker, this could be something special. Having the consistently great Moore on board to star also gives the project a very high floor. We’ll now wait and see who signs on to play Amy alongside her.
