What do you get when you mix Mercedes-Benz, 70’s nostalgia and MyTheresa buying director Justin O’Shea? Answer? A fistful of wolves. This is Mercedes’ third video in a line of feature length YouTube adverts pre-empting the upcoming Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin. The film features a Mercedes, obviously, and not just any Mercedes. It’s the C111 which wouldn’t look out of place in the 70’s or indeed now. The film was directed by Danny Sangra and is playful whilst being serious. O’Shea plays a character battling the clichés of fashion advertising. It’s slow but yet dramatic calm yet sombre.
There’s an underlying notion of escapism which some may find in fashion and how it can trap you into a virtual reality. But what’s life without your glamorous girlfriend, fashion editor Veronika Heilbrunner and your group of friends. They soon bring him back to reality. Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicks off on January 19th, I’m sure a trip to Berlin wouldn’t go amiss.
