Kaitlyn Dever To Star In ‘Rosaline’ From ‘Yes, God, Yes’ Director | Film News

Hollywood’s bout of Kaitlyn Dever fever persists. Less than a week after it was announced that the Booksmart star had signed on for a supporting role alongside George Clooney and Julia Roberts in romcom Ticket To Paradise, as well as the lead in genre mash-up No One Will Save You, Dever has now signed on to star in Rosaline, a modern comedic take on Romeo & Juliet.

This project is in the works at 20th Century Studios. The film hails from director Karen Maine, who recently helmed charming coming-of-age comedy Yes, God, Yes. It also boasts a script by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who wrote much-loved romances (500) Days Of Summer and The Spectacular Now, which Dever had a supporting role in.

Rosaline will be a revisionist take on William Shakespeare‘s classic. The film will chronicle the famous love story from the perspective of Juliet’s cousin Rosaline, who also happens to be Romeo’s recent ex. Although she at first sets out to break up the star-crossed lovers, a journey of self-discovery leads her to try to help them get back together.

The project has been gestating for a while. It was previously in development at MGM before coming back on the market, where 20th Century Studios acquired it.

Teen-centric movies based on classic literature actually have a pretty good track record when you consider modern classics like Clueless – based on Jane Austen‘s Emma – and 10 Things I Hate About You, which was a modernization of Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew. Fingers crossed that Rosaline can at least wind up in the same ballpark as those two.

As mentioned earlier in the week, it’s no surprise that Dever is getting a lot of love. She’s a charming performer with movie star potential, and after her impressive turns in very different projects such as Booksmart and the Netflix crime drama Unbelievable, it’s clear she has plenty of range.

The next few years of interesting projects has the chance to propel her to superstardom. Next up she stars in the film adaptation of popular Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, while she’s currently shooting the Hulu crime series Dopesick alongside Michael Keaton.
