Kate Winslet To Star In HBO Limited Series ‘The Palace’

Kate Winslet and HBO are teaming up once again. Following the previous collaborations between the actor and the network – the 2011 limited series version of Mildred Pierce and crime drama Mare of Easttown a few years ago – and the previously announced series The Trust, Winslet has now signed on to star in limited series The Palace.

Will Tracy (Succession) has created the drama which will revolve around an authoritarian regime. Set inside the titular palace over a one-year span, the tyrannical rulers begin to lose their hold on the surrounding city. Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons, High Fidelity) has been tapped to direct the entirety of the series.

Tracy will also serve as showrunner alongside a writing team that consists of Seth Reiss, Juli Weiner, Jen Spyra, Gary Shteyngart, and Sarah DeLappe.

As mentioned, this announcement comes less than a month after Winslet signed on to star in another HBO limited series, The Trust. That one’s based on Hernan Diaz‘s novel of the same name which focuses on a world-famous financier who hires a ghostwriter to rewrite his past after finding himself less than pleased with a previous novel penned about his life.

Combine these projects with the aforementioned Mildred Pierce, which won Winslet an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie, and Mare of Easttown, which was widely acclaimed (especially for Winslet’s handle of the difficult Philadelphian accent), and it’s easy to see why Winslet and HBO are a great match for each other.

The network will be hoping for similar success with The Palace and The Trust, while Winslet will likely expect to add to her considerable trophy case. No release date is currently set for either production.
