Keira Knightley Up For Potential ‘Catherine The Great’ Biopic | Film News

According to the Hollywood Reporter , Kiera Knightley is being eyed as the actress to take on the role as the longest serving Russian ruler ever, Catherine the Great, who is the  subject for an upcoming biopic.

The biopic is to be directed by American singer and actress in her own right, Barbara Streisand, and written by Kristina Lauren Anderson. The biopic topped the 2014 blacklist of yet unproduced screenplays, which described the film as:
Sophia Augusta takes control of her life, her marriage, and her kingdom becoming Russia’s most celebrated and beloved monarch: Catherine the Great.

Knightly herself has already played an iconic Russian, in the 2012 Leo Tolstoy film adaptation of Anna Karenina, directed by Joe Wright. The actress starred in the lead role of course,  marking her third collaboration with Wright following Pride and Prejudice (2005) and Atonement (2007).
