Kenneth Branagh’s sold-out West End production of William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale topped the UK Box Office yesterday, as it was broadcast live at 520 Picturehouse cinemas across the UK. Starring Dame Judi Dench as Paulina, opposite Branagh himself as Leontes, The Winter’s Tale opened in London’s Garrick Theatre on November 7, and is reportedly sold out through to their closing night, January 16, 2016. Thus the live broadcast!

According to figures at LondonTheatre1, as well as the 520 UK cinemas, the broadcast also reached over 100 cinemas in Europe and Canada, with international screenings to follow in over 1200 cinemas worldwide. IMDb reports that screenings in the US will take place from November 30, and further screenings in the UK will take place over the Christmas period.

As a Shakespeare fan, a Judi Dench fan, and a Kenneth Branagh fan (great career, but for me, nothing will ever top his performance as Gilderoy Lockhart in the Harry Potter Franchise), I don’t see how this could be disappointing.
