‘Killing Eve’ Star Kirby Howell-Baptiste Joins Disney’s ‘Cruella’ | Film News

Killing Eve actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste is set to join the cast of the upcoming Disney live-action movie. Cruella led by Emma Stone shows the origin story of 101 Dalmatians villain Cruella DeVil.

Kirby Howell-Baptiste is known mostly for her role in award-winning TV drama Killing Eve, in which she plays an assistant of Sandra Oh’s character. The English actress has also made guest appearances in some other successful series, notably Netlix’s The Good Place.

Now, Howell-Baptiste is slated to star in Cruella, alongside the previously confirmed Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry. Stone is cast in the titular role, while Hauser and Fry will play her henchmen, Jasper and Horace. It has not yet been revealed who the remaining cast members are set to portray.

The rumours about a planned spinoff of the iconic Disney film first emerged in 2013. Last month, a picture of Emma Stone as Cruella DeVil was released during D23 Expo. The filming for Cruella has already kicked off, and the prequel is due to premiere in 2021.

The famous villain first appeared on the screen in 1961, in the original Disney animation 101 Dalmatians. The role was later famously reprised by Glenn Close in 1996 live-action comedy adventure film. Now, fans will discover Cruella DeVil’s origin story presented in the Craig Gillespie-directed prequel.
