Kristen Bell To Produce & Star In Comedic Thriller ‘The Woman In The House’ For Netflix | TV News

Kristen Bell is no stranger to unique, genre-bending TV, having starred in both Veronica Mars and The Good Place, two well-loved shows with their own fresh spins on traditional TV. So her latest project makes complete sense; a genre-blending, comedy/thriller miniseries in the works at Netflix.

Bell will produce and star in The Woman In The House, an eight-episode mini-series possibly playing on the title of the upcoming Amy Adams thriller The Woman In The Window.

It does have a similar plot, with Bell playing a lonely woman who sits near her window watching the world pass her by with a glass of wine usually by her side. But when a handsome man moves in across the street and she possibly sees him commit murder, everything about her life changes.

Rachel Ramras, Hugh Davidson, and Larry Dorf (Nobodies) have created the series and will also serve as showrunners. It will be produced through Gloria Sanchez Productions, the female-centric wing of Will Ferrell‘s production company, and other key creative members include Marti Noxon (Sharp Objects) and Jessica Elbaum (Booksmart).

The comedic mystery thriller is a sub genre that’s began to flourish in recent years. Barry, Fargo, and Search Party have become hits, while the trailer for HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant with Kaley Cuoco just debuted. On the film side of things, A Simple Favor probably counts too.

Perhaps this is a natural comedic counter to the popularity of true crime in the last decade. Either way, this should be a perfect role for Bell and has the makings of an extremely popular Netflix series. The craze around the two seasons (and sadly, only two) of American Vandal might be a good comparison.
