L. Marie Cook Continues Her Solo Run With ‘Red Flags’ | Music News
Even though her new single “Red Flag” is only among a handful of debut solo offerings from L. Marie Cook, which combine her reggae roots with 90s art-pop and alternative rock influences, the US musician, author and visual artist is certainly not a newcomer, and already has nine studio projects under hear name.
Firstly, she was the lead songwriter and frontrunner for reggae-rocksteady band SheGo! from 2005 to 2009, before moving to Los Angeles and going on to lead electronic rock band SlowStart between 2010 and 2013, and electronic dance duo Luv Maschine from 2013 to 2015. In 2019, she went onto collaborate with Agent Jay Nugent on his Crazy Baldhead project.
As a solo artist, L. Marie Cook released her debut EP Wild Hearts in April last year, and followed that up with “Wicked Game” a month ago, before delivering us with her new track “Red Flag”.
Speaking about “Red Flags”, L. Marie Cook says, “This song is inspired by a conversations with my friends. I showed them a photo of the guy I was dating at the time and one of my friends replied, ‘he looks just like the last one. Leslie they are all the same? How do you keep doing this?’ because I had had so many break-ups they were astonished. But I knew I was going to let that one play out and after it was over make some changes, but not before writing an anthem about it“.
