LaKeith Stanfield & Omar Sy To Star In Jeymes Samuel’s ‘Book Of Clarence’

Following the positive reception of his Netflix western The Harder They Fall, director Jeymes Samuel is now focusing on his follow-up. While details are under wraps, we know his next film will be titled The Book Of Clarence, and he’s secured LaKeith Stanfield and Omar Sy to star in the project.

The only minor plot details available right now are that the film will be set during the bible era with Stanfield playing the Clarence role. It’s an original project that Samuel will write, direct, produce, and compose the music for.

The film is in development at Legendary. James Lassiter, Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter, and former Netflix executive Tendo Nagenda will produce the film, as they all did with The Harder They Fall.

Samuel described the film in a statement:

“You remember those biblical epics, whether they were about the Bible or just taking place around it, from The Ten Commandments to The Greatest Story Ever Told, Samson and Delilah and Ben-Hur, which runs alongside all that stuff in the Bible? As will be The Book of Clarence, a full fun-filled extravaganza. It’s written and ready to go, and set in 29 AD.”

There’s no word yet on when the film is expected to arrive, but with Samuel stating that the script is already written, production should be able to begin shortly.

The film will reunite Samuel with Stanfield, who had a key role in The Harder They Fall. Stanfield can currently be seen in the final season of FX series Atlanta, while he’s currently filming Disney’s Haunted Mansion remake and will star in the upcoming Apple TV+ series The Changeling.

Sy is a veteran actor who recently broke out thanks to his role in Netflix’s mystery series Lupin, one of the streamer’s most watched non-English language shows. He also previously starred in acclaimed French film The Intouchables.

He recently wrapped production on Lionsgate film Shadow Force and is set to star in upcoming Peacock series The Killer.
