Lilly Singh Debuts As Host On New NBC Talk Show | TV News
After brand partnerships and appearances in films and TV shows, popular YouTuber Lilly Singh, also known as Superwoman, has launched her new TV talk show A Little Late With Lilly Singh, which aired on NBC this past Monday night.
The Canadian became famous on Youtube with comedy sketches that allowed her to accumulate 15 million subscribers. Her videos collected more than 3 billion views, thanks to her irony and her lively spirit, characteristics that emerged in her debut.
“Hello my name is Lilly and I ain’t a white man / My skin has some colour and it ain’t a spray tan. I know you’re only used to Jimmys up in the spotlight / But I’m gonna throw some melanin up in your late-night”, the Youtuber sang at the opening of the show.
Singh is also the first openly bisexual woman of color to host a talk show and she made jokes about it: “I get it… I’m not your traditional talk show host”, she said “The media has mentioned that I am a bisexual woman of colour so much that I feel like should just change my name to Bisexual Woman of Colour”.
Because of her large audience on Youtube, she premiered the show on the platform before it was on NBC. This way, both her TV and Youtube audience could enjoy the debut, that also saw The Office stars Mindy Kaling and Rainn Wilson as first guests.
