Los Angeles Christian Rap Artist O/W/L Unveils New Single ‘Used To Be’

Los Angeles-based Christian artist O/W/L, whose name stands for Once Was Lost, has marked his rebirth in faith with the release of his new song, “Used To Be”. Unveiled across all music platforms on May 4th, 2023, the song is the artist’s first release since embracing Christianity.

In a departure from traditional Christian music, “Used To Be” celebrates God in a unique way, reflecting the transformative journey of O/W/L’s faith. Two years into his Christian journey, the song highlights the blessings and positive changes brought about by following Jesus.

It serves as a powerful testament of gratitude towards the divine, crediting the newfound faith for pulling the artist out of the shadows and granting him a rejuvenated life.

O/W/L’s struggle with substance abuse and panic attacks, which often resulted in hospital visits, found their resolution in his spiritual awakening. Lyrics like “pulling me out of the grave” and “I used to be in the dark” profoundly manifest O/W/L’s understanding of the salvation he found in Jesus.

The song was a collaborative endeavor with the lyrics penned and performed by O/W/L, the instrumental crafted by MANUEL, and the final mix and mastering done by Brent Spiegel at Fast Trax Recording Studio.

This release is just the beginning for O/W/L, with six more songs completed and set to drop in the coming months. The artist is geared up to make a significant impact in 2023.

O/W/L’s journey towards faith and music began in Wichita, Kansas, where as an eight-year-old, he performed covers of his favorite Christian rappers at his local church.

Despite drifting away from his beliefs during his teenage years and experiencing personal hardships, including his father’s abandonment and a brief period of homelessness, O/W/L found his way back to faith after a near-death experience in 2020 due to Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), a condition characterized by a rapid heart rate.

This crisis led to a profound realization, culminating in O/W/L’s spiritual transformation. He then decided to pause his music, focus on personal growth, and nurture his relationship with Jesus.

Nearly three years later, O/W/L has returned to music, stronger and more devoted than ever, eager to share his journey and the grace he found in his faith through his songs.
