‘Mad Max’ Prequel ‘Furiosa’ To Be Filmed In Australia Next Year | Film News

It has been a good few years since the last Mad Max movie starring Charlize Theron was released in 2015 to worldwide success. Indeed, the post-apocalyptic film series has had success every time and that is why a brand new instalment is on its way!

This time the movie won’t be titled Mad Max but it will be named after Furiosa, Charlize Theron’s character in the last movie. Anya Taylor-Joy will play the role of Furiosa this time, starring alongside Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

It was announced this week that the film will be shot in New South Wales in Australia, with the film’s director George Miller and Chris Hemsworth confirming this in a press conference. New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian was also on hand to confirm that Furiosa would be the “biggest ever film to be made in Australia, supporting more than 850 local jobs and bringing in $350 million to the economy“.

Regarding the premise of the film, we don’t know much yet and we don’t know which role Hemsworth will have in this spin-off but the Australian actor has described his role as being a great opportunity: “biggest pinch-myself moment, because I’ve grown up watching it and it’s so iconic… It is a huge honor. A lot of pressure, but exciting pressure that is certainly motivating“.

The next movies from the film series are set to be released by June 23, 2023, if they aren’t any delays.
