Marc Webb To Direct Supernatural Thriller ‘Day Drinker’

The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb has reportedly signed on to helm a supernatural thriller titled Day Drinker. Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War) has written the script, based on his own original story.

There are only a few details available about the film right now, but it’s said to revolve around the developing bond between an enigmatic stranger and a bartender mourning the loss of her lover set in coastal France, Portugal, and Spain. Themes of love, friendship, and revenge have also been mentioned by Deadline.

Webb got his start directing music videos for bands such as Green Day, Maroon 5, and Weezer, before beginning to climb the film director ladder thanks to his 2009 postmodern romantic comedy (500) Days Of Summer.

He then went on to helm two Amazing Spider-Man films starring Andrew Garfield, which have recently gotten a bit of a reappraisal thanks to fans revisiting them due to their connection to Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Webb is currently working on Disney’s live-action version of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, which has Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) in the title role. He’s also producing and directing the upcoming Hulu series Career Opportunities In Murder And Mayhem, which will star Mandy Patinkin, Violett Beane, and Rahul Kohli.

Production company 30West will finance Day Drinker. They have previously funded I, Tonya, Late Night, and upcoming Martin Scorsese Apple TV+ film Killers Of The Flower Moon.

Webb hasn’t really dabbled at all in the horror genre in his career, so this will be something different from him. Currently there’s no announced release date, filming start date or cast for the project, but the renewed interest in Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man films might help get this project some bigger star interest than it otherwise might have.
