Margot Robbie In Talks To Star In New Line Comedy ‘Fools Day’ | Film News

Per Collider, Margot Robbie is in talks to produce and star in the comedy Fools Day. New Line Cinema is developing the project, which will be written and directed by Cody Blue Snider.

The film is based on Snider’s own 2013 short of the same name. It follows a classroom of nine-year-olds who have to clean up a gruesome April Fool’s Day prank before a D.A.R.E. representative arrives and the jig is up. Robbie is in talks to play the teacher, though the kids are the real stars. Unfortunately they’ve all aged out of their roles, so new child actors will have to be brought in.

The studio is also reportedly looking for a big name to co-star alongside Robbie. Edward Norton is producing and could be in line for a role. This would arguably be Robbie’s first pure comedy, although many of her roles have a comedic element to them. Harley Quinn, The Wolf Of Wall Street and her bathtub cameo in The Big Short come to mind.

Back in the day, studios would watch short films and pluck promising filmmakers for feature projects. That doesn’t really happen anymore, but it’s cool to see someone like Snider – who’s never helmed a feature – get an opportunity to direct one of the bigger movie stars in the world. Adapting his own short should make the process easier too.

Robbie recently starred in Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. She’ll next be seen in the Fox News drama Bombshell and DC’s Birds Of Prey movie. It will be interesting to see her flex her comedic muscles in this one. You can watch the original short film below.
