Margot Robbie To Star In Robin Hood Reboot ‘Marian’ | Film News

A female-driven twist is being put on the classic Robin Hood story, with Sony Pictures acquiring the rights to Marian and signing on Wolf Of Wall Street and Suicide Squad star, Margot Robbie, for the lead role.

Pete Barry has penned the script, which will follow Marian who, after a conspiracy to conquer England results in the death of Robin Hood, takes matters into her own hands and leads a war by donning the Robin Hood mantle and becoming a legend in her own right.

Robbie is on the brink of developing into a full-fledged star following her stellar 2016 with roles in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, The Legend Of Tarzan and being easily the best part of the disappointing Suicide Squad. Hollywood is never gun-shy about rebooting projects nor being influenced by surrounding success, so it’s no surprise to hear that the film will echo the grittiness of Game Of Thrones.

Oddly, Robbie’s Marian will be competing against another Robin Hood film set for production at Lionsgate and set to star Taron Egerton in the lead role alongside Jamie Foxx and Jamie Dornan. Whether the well has run dry for the classical Robin Hood story or if audiences are ready for a fresh new take will likely be decided by the box office takings of both films.

Robbie is currently filming the Tonya Harding biopic I, Tonya while the Harley Quinn spinoff Gotham City Sirens is currently in development with David Ayer already signed on to direct. If Marian winds up being a hit, expect Robbie’s stardom to soar, as well as a few sequels to instantly be signed off on.
