Matthew McConaughey Will NOT Be Returning For ‘Magic Mike XXL’ | Film News

Although having previously confirmed that the entire cast of Magic Mike would be returning for a sexy sequel, director Gregory Jacobs has unfortunately announced Matthew McConaughey aka ‘Dallas’ will NOT be returning for the franchise’s second installment Magic Mike XXL. There are no reports right now detailing McConaughey’s decision to step down from the project, but due to his current movie hot streak dubbed the ‘McConaissance’, need we ask? Magic Mike hit our theatres back in 2012 starring Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello. Partially based on Tatum’s life experience as a male stripper, Magic Mike was a box office success and was greeted with great reviews.

Steven Soderbergh will also be stepping down as director for the next instalment leading the way from his long time assistant Gregory Jacobs to take the reins, however Soderbergh will be set on as producer, editor and director of photography. Although some have shared hesitation towards a Magic Mike sequel, assuming it will be pretty much the same as the first film, Jacobs has stated that Magic Mike XXL will be taking a much different route. Still based on Tatum’s experiences, this next instalment will take the structure of a road trip and see the handsome muscle-bound men attend stripper conventions. Set for release in the UK on the 7th of August 2015, viewers can expect comedy, exotic dancing, and A LOT of male flesh.
