Michelle Welchons Dazzles Us With Her Latest Single ‘Flickering Lights’ | Music News

Michelle Welchons has brought together the finest elements in her new single “Flickering Lights”, for which she is the composer, arranger, percussionist, and lyricist.

This song features Gabrielle Cavassa on vocals, Sam Dickey on guitar, Oscar Rossignoli on piano, Martin Masakowski on bass, and Jennie Brent and Gabrielle Fischler on cello and violin/viola, respectively, flesh out the song’s arrangement.

“Flickering Lights” is Michelle Welchons’ way of dealing with the infinity of life and hope even in darker times such as grief. It is a gentle, sensitive work, marked by the sumptuous voice of Gabrielle Cavassa but also a little jazzy with the piano and some West African guitar chords.

Michelle Welchons has always been steeped in music. Based in New Orleans, the land of jazz, Welchons studied European classical music as a child. She then embarked on an extensive exploration of West African and Latin American traditions.

She has subsequently lived in many different regions such as Ecuador, Spain and West Africa and has drawn inspiration from these lifestyles in her art.

Michelle Welchons wrote “Flickering Lights” in Florida, at a time when the pandemic turned her energy to music.

“When Covid hit, for some reason the song came back in my head, and I thought, ‘This is a message I think is important for people right now — to be reminded of this infinity of life”, she says.
