Michelle Williams & Kelly Reichardt Teaming For A24 Comedy ‘Showing Up’ | Film News

Michelle Williams and Kelly Reichardt – who have previously collaborated on great films such as Wendy & Lucy, Meek’s Cutoff and Certain Women – are teaming up once again, this time at A24. But not for an indie drama like those previous films, but instead for a comedy titled Showing Up.

Reichardt and her longtime writing partner Jon Raymond have co-written the script, which follows an artist on the verge of a career-changing exhibition. As she navigates friends, family and colleagues in the lead-up to her show, the chaos of life becomes the inspiration for great art.

This is exciting, as any new Reichardt film is, but also surprising. The director has excelled with her neo-realist dramas in recent years, and just came off big acclaim for last year’s First Cow, which was named Best Picture by the New York Film Critics Circle. Pivoting to a comedy is an odd but fascinating turn. What will a Reichardt comedy even look like?

Neil Kopp, Anish Savjani and Vincent Savino will produce Showing Up, while Scott Rudin and Eli Bush will executive produce. Production is expected to begin this summer. Williams is certainly showing her range right now, as she couldn’t be involved in two tonally different projects, as her other scheduled film is the Venom sequel, Let There Be Carnage.
