Mike Myers To Star As Multiple Characters In Half-Hour Netflix Comedy | TV News

With the streaming wars set to heat up thanks to the release of Disney+ and Apple+, Netflix are attempting to counter. However, while their rivals are developing Marvel-related shows, or bringing in big movie stars for a TV series, Netflix have decided that their best counterpunch is…Mike Myers?

The streaming giant has ordered a six-episode, half-hour limited comedy series from the comedian. The show will see Myers play a variety of different characters, and will also act as executive producer. “I love creating characters, and Netflix has given me a fantastic playground to play in”, Myers said in a statement.

Myers rose to fame on Saturday Night Live between 1989 and 1995, where he created Wayne Campbell and Wayne’s World, which of course led to two feature films. He also had arguably one of the best post-SNL film careers, going on to star in multiple Austin Powers movies and voicing Shrek.

However, Myers has also had his share of stinkers during that time. Films like the live-action Cat In The Hat and The Love Guru come to mind. It doesn’t really seem like there’s a demand for a big Myers comeback, but considering Netflix’s profits and studies, they probably know what they’re doing. Perhaps Myers’ recent role in Bohemian Rhapsody has whet audiences’ appetite for his return as a comedy lead.

There’s no further news on the series. Netflix hasn’t set a date for the show. We’ll wait for more information on what exactly Myers’ plan for the show is.
