MOBO Awards To Return This Year With Full List Of Nominees Announced | Music News

The UK’s biggest celebration of Black music and culture is back! After a 2 year hiatus, the MOBO Awards is set to return this year, taking place virtually on December 9th, via a YouTube live stream at 7PM with a television broadcast following on BBC One at 10:45PM and highlights on BBC iPlayer.

The 90-minute awards ceremony will honour the very best of Black culture across music and entertainment, with this year’s ceremony hosted by Maya Jama and YouTube creator, music artist and comedian Chunkz.

The show-stopping event will feature music performances from the hottest UK and international artists of today including Tottenham-born, chart topping rap star Headie One, South London MC Ms Banks, ‘Queen of Afrobeats’ Tiwa Savage, British rap maverick Kojey Radical and more soon to be announced.

Leading nominations this year are Nines, Lianne La Havas and Mahalia. The North West London MC has picked up five nominations including Best Male Act, Album of The Year for Crabs In A Bucket and Video of The Year for “Clout“. Soulful songstresses Lianne La Havas, Mahalia and Tiana Major9 amass three nominations each including Best Female Act and Best R&B/Soul Act.

New categories added this year include Best Music Producer, Best Performance in a TV Show / Film and Best Media Personality – the latter two will be public voted, alongside a few other music categories such as Song of The Year, Best Grime Act, Best Newcomer, Best African Act, and Best International Act.

This year’s MOBO Awards is truly the most diverse, shining a light on emerging UK genres of Drill, Afro-swing and Alternative Hip Hop as well as continuing to fly the flag for music from Africa, the Caribbean as well as Jazz and Gospel here in the UK.

As always, the Awards will be a fun and dynamic event full of special surprises. However, this year, a strong vein of cultural purpose and social commentary will weave through the ceremony as we articulate a vision of the world as it is, but also as we want it to be.
