Naomi Watts To Star In ‘Goodnight Mommy’ Remake For Amazon Studios | Film News
Oscar-nominated actress Naomi Watts is confirmed to star in and executive produce the English-language remake of the Austrian psychological thriller Goodnight Mommy for Amazon Studios.
Released in 2014, the original film has become a cult classic and was even selected as the Austrian entry for the best foreign language film at the Academy Awards.
The plot of the upcoming movie goes like this: two brothers are sent to stay with their mother who is covered with bandages. After spending quite some time with her, the boys start to believe that the woman is not their mother and do everything to find out the truth.
The streaming platform will launch the remake with prestige label Animal Kingdom and production company Playtime. Matt Sobel whose name is behind Take Me To The River will direct using Kyle Warren‘s script.
David Kaplan, Joshua Astrachan, Valery Guibal and Nicolas Brigaud-Robert are in charge of producing the remake, and alongside Naomi Watts, the original film’s directors Severin Fiala and Veronica Franz will serve as executive producers.
Commenting on the news, Sobel said, “My favorite films are those that invite the audience to step inside their protagonist’s journey. In our re-imagining of Goodnight Mommy, fear of abandonment and the dreadful realization that those close to us may not be who they seem create an immersive nightmare, with visceral sensations front and center. I can’t wait to create this heart-stopping story with Amazon and the peerless Naomi Watts“.
