The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 isn’t even a month old and rumours regarding a potential prequel are already circulating the web. Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns recently said that he hoped that the franchise would “live on and on and on”. I get it, it’s been a highly lucrative franchise for the studio. So of course they’re going to want to milk it – but is it really necessary?

Katniss Everdeen herself, Jennifer Lawrence, recently addressed these rumours saying that the studio needs to “let the body get cold” before opening the franchise back up. A statement I fully agree with. Now, her co-star Natalie Dormer, who plays the tough filmmaker/rebel Cressida has voiced her opinion. “I adore Suzanne Collins for her bravery and her imagination,” Dormer told EW, “and everything that is the success of The Hunger Games, the genesis, it all comes from Suzanne. She wrote such a complex world and yet at the same time had so many scenes that deal with all the things we’re struggling with with our own time and zeitgeist”.

“So I’m just a huge fan of Suzanne Collins and her writing,” She continued. “and I think [Hunger Games producer] Nina Jacobson and [director] Francis Lawrence have both talked about this, but anything prequel, sequel, whatever would have to come from her and her penmanship, so the minute I know that Suzanne is writing something, then yes, my ears would prick up. Almost definitely”. So, while Lawrence won’t be involved there is a chance we could see Dormer returning to the franchise.
