Netflix Gears Up For Series Adaptation Of ‘The Haunting Of Hill House’ | TV News

Netflix is currently hard at work prepping a new series based on the 1959 novel, The Haunting Of Hill House, by Shirley Jackson.

The novel, widely considered one of the best literary ghost stories published in the 20th century, has already spawned two feature films and a play. All previous adaptations of the story followed the wide range of supernatural phenomena experienced by four people spending the summer in a rented mansion.

The Netflix series will be re-imagining the novel in a modern setting. Mike Flanagan, who has previous experience in the horror genre, will be writing and directing the 10-episode series. Flanagan has previously worked on horror films Hush, Oculus and Ouija: Origin of Evil. He will also executive produce alongside Trevor Macy, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.

Netflix is no stranger to producing darker content: their most recent horror series, Stranger Things, has received rave reviews upon its release last year and is scheduled to premiere its second season this Halloween.
