Netflix has just released the premiere aate, a first trailer and images of its new social thriller anthology drama series starring Renée Zellweger, who debuts for the first time on TV. From Revenge and Swingtown creator Mike Kelley, the series is called What/If.
In the new trailer for the show, which dropped on Tuesday, we follow the 49-year-old through a lavish party, where we’re immediately introduced to an abundance of elite characters, all dressed to the nines.
Renee, who will be playing the character Anne, can be heard on the voice over, where she asks viewers: “What if I made you an offer too extraordinary to refuse?” While walking up a grand staircase, she adds: “For anything and anyone to be yours for the taking.”
Written by Kelley, What/If explores the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things. Each season will tackle a different morality tale inspired by culturally consequential source material, and the power of a single fateful decision to change the trajectory of an entire life.
The first season of the Netflix original series focuses on a mysterious woman’s lucrative, but dubious offer to a cash-strapped pair of San Francisco newlyweds. Phillip Noyce directs the series, which is produced by Page Fright, Atlas Entertainment and Compari Entertainment in association with Warner Bros Television.
The series also stars Jane Levy (Castle Rock, Suburgatory), Blake Jenner (American Animals, Glee), Samantha Ware (Glee), Keith Powers (Famous in Love), Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Juan Castano (Shades of Blue), John Clarence Stewart (Marvel’s Luke Cage), Louis Herthum(Westworld) and Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters).
The premiere is set May 24 on Netflix. In the meantime, check out the announcement trailer below.
