Netflix Snaps Up Female Thriller Pitch From ‘Spenser Confidential’ Writer | Film News

Per Deadline, Netflix has acquired a thriller pitch from Spenser Confidential writer Sean O’Keefe that will be turned into a feature film, with Matt Reeves‘ (The Batman) 6th & Idaho producing.

The film is being billed as being in the spirit of Ron Howard‘s 1996 kidnapping thriller Ransom, except with a female lead.

It makes sense that Netflix would want to work with O’Keefe again, as the aforementioned action-comedy Spenser Confidential – that he co-wrote with Brian Helgeland – became the third most-watched movie on the platform after Bird Box and Extraction.

Plus, many of the Netflix films that do well seem to be in the action-thriller genre, so making something in the vein of Ransom makes a lot of sense.

Adam Kassan and Rafi Crohn of 6th & Idaho will produce, alongside John Schoenfelder of Addictive Pictures, who brought the idea to O’Keefe.

O’Keefe is coming off writing the adaptation of sci-fi actioner Oblivion Song for The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, which is in the works at Universal. He’s also got prison escape thriller The Escapist set for production in Hungary early next year. That film will star Liam Neeson.
