Nicki Minaj And Taylor Swift In VMAs Twitter Row | Music News

With the full nominations list available for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, you would have thought artists around the world would be congratulating their rivals, because lets admit it, music is art and artists should support one another right? Well not for Nicki Minaj. The superstar isn’t happy that her “Anaconda” video and “Feeling Myself” video didn’t get more recognition, and as a result, a row with Taylor Swift ensued.

The tweet from the singer that kicked off the row was: “If I was a different “kind” of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well“. Then it seems that she is implying that white musicians were favoured over her by saying, “when the ‘other’ girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination“.

Continuing on her rant, it’s then suggested that the next tweet is a jibe aimed at Taylor Swift, which had female celebrities and models in her Bad Blood video. “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year“. Taylor Swift responded with: “@NICKIMINAJ I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot“. Which was followed by Minaj saying: “Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @taylorswift13“.

And then Minaj randomly added that, “Oh but trust me. I’ll be on that stage to collect my awards for vid of the year. Feeling Myself & Anaconda“, before Swift asked Minaj to join her on stage and then backs away from it all: “@NICKIMINAJ If I win, please come up with me!! You’re invited to any stage I’m ever on“.

Kim Kardashian also got caught up in the row, after sharing a photo of herself with the caption: “Imma let you finish”. This phrase is reminiscent of what Kanye West said to Swift during her speech in 2009 VMAs, when he gate crashed the stage. Bruno Mars jokingly wanted in on the row by saying to fellow nominee Ed Sheeran: “Yo I want in on this twitter Beef!! VMAs is the new WWF!!“.
