Oh goody, another Nicolas Cage film. The actor, better known for his memes than his talents, is keeping rather busy nowadays (albeit in not very well known projects), with five films he’s yet to show the world. At TIFF, it was announced that he’s decided to add another in independent action movie Primal.

According to Variety, the film “centers on a big-game hunter for zoos who has booked passage on a Greek shipping freighter with a fresh haul of exotic and deadly animals from the Amazon, including a rare white Jaguar — along with a political assassin being extradited to the U.S in secret. Two days into the journey, the assassin escapes and releases the captive animals, throwing the ship into chaos.”

It’s very Nicolas Cage, and naturally very-not-my-cup-of-tea.

Richard Leder has written the strange script which is backed up by years of not very well known credit. Nick Powell also directs Primal with very little experience, having instead built up an impressive resume as a stunt coordinator on the likes of The Bourne Identity, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Resident Evil.

I think it’s safe to say the film isn’t going to be winning any Oscars. One might also be able to guess that the film won’t be any good. But, hey, Hollywood might surprise us.

For anyone who cares, production on Primal is scheduled to start October 23 in Puerto Rico. Don’t get your hopes up.
