Nigerian Canadian Artist Falana Releases New Single ‘Joy’ | Music News

Nigerian-Canadian singer-songwriter Falana has just released a new single “Joy”.

“Joy” is a song that speaks to this moment in time, with vibrant Afrobeats and elegant R&B. The song was written with fellow singer and songwriter Omolara Ayodele and producer KINGBNJMN who has already produced for such great names as Future and DJ Snake, at Geejam Studios in Port Antonio, Jamaica.

Falana added on the creation of her song, “It’s crazy that the song was written two weeks before the world went into lockdown. Over the last ten months, the song’s sentiment surfaces all the time, whether it’s in everyday conversation, on the news or at social media. It feels like the song was birthed right at the time that the world needed it”.

In addition to her song, the Toronto artist released an accompanying video clip that was filmed in Jamaica with director Mykal Cushnie. Falana adds “I think the video is such a beautiful visual representation of ‘Joy’, the song and the feeling. The energy on set matched the song, and I was so grateful for that”

To tell you a little more about this emerging artist, Falana was born and raised in Toronto, her parents are Nigerian and played a lot of traditional Yoruba music to keep in touch with their culture. Falana was quickly introduced to pop, hip-hop and R&B.

The young artist has also travelled extensively, from London to Denmark to Havana, and has spent the last five years in Nigeria in her parents’ hometown. These trips were a process of self-discovery, which revealed new layers to her writing.
