New York-based musician and actress Okay Kaya has dropped a new single called “Ascend And Try Again”. The track is accompanied by a music video, which sees the singer dive in a Japanese hot spring.
“Ascend And Try Again” is the first original music from Okay Kaya, whose real name is Kaya Wilkins, since her 2018 debut album Both. In spring this year the Norwegian-born artist confirmed she had signed to Jagjaguwar, joining the likes of Bon Iver and Angel Olsen. To accompany the announcement, she released her cover of Cher’s “Believe”.
Now Okay Kaya is sharing a brand new track taken from her sophomore album coming out next year. The song was written after the singer, who also works as an actress, was offered a part in a film involving scuba diving. Eventually, she turned down the role, but she is set to appear alongside Game Of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the upcoming drama Suicide Tourist.
“Ascend And Try Again” comes with a video helmed by Kaya and Adinah Dancyger. It was filmed in Japan and shows the musician swim in a volcanic spring. Speaking about the clip’s setting, the directors said: “Over the course of a week, we found an onsen in this volcanically active country and conspicuously filmed during late night vacancies. And we found that there is indeed, a river”.
