Oprah Winfrey And Dr. Bruce Perry To Open SXSW Edu Online 2021 | Culture

SXSW Edu is an annual event that promotes innovation and apprenticeship within the education industry. Traditionally the event is held in Austin, Texas, but this year, due to the global health situation, the event will be held online.

During this event, which takes place between the 9th and 11th of March, there will be showcases, networking, exhibitions, but above all, conference keynotes and sessions. This year, the opening keynotes will be hosted by two great talents, Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Bruce Perry.

During this keynote, the two guests will talk about their upcoming book: What Happened to You: Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing. Oprah commented on this talk and her collaboration with Dr. Perry.

“When I first heard Dr. Perry speak about trauma-informed education, it served as a fundamental shift in the way I approached my school in South Africa. I knew I wanted to learn more, study more, and share his work with as many people as I could. I look forward to our conversation at SXSW EDU with educators who understand the long-term impact of addressing trauma from this lens”, said the author.

The TV and entertainment mogul will be speaking with the leading child psychiatrist and neuroscientist about the impact of childhood traumas on our development, who we become and the decisions we make, and how to begin the healing process by asking the single question, “What happened to you?”.
