Phoebe Bridgers’ Smashed ‘SNL’ Guitar Sells For $101,500 | Music News

Two months after Phoebe Bridgers’ iconic Saturday Night Live (SNL) performance, her smashed guitar accumulated even more value and sold for $101, 500 at 2021 GLAAD Media Awards!

Bridgers’ smashing her guitar was probably the most discussed topic in the media over that SNL weekend. The singer smashed the instrument in the ending of her “I Know The End” song, but the smile on her face made the lack of aggressiveness quite clear.

This Rock-n-Roll act was met with strikingly opposite opinions. In his tweet, David Crosby said:” Guitars are for playing… making music… not stupidly bashing them on a fake monitor for childish stage drama… I really do NOT give a flying F if others have done it before It’s still STUPID.

On the other hand, David Grohl expressed his support for Phoebe during the appearance on The Howard Stern Show saying, “My drums had holes in them from Kurt [Cobain] fucking chopping my drums. I’ve seen enough smashed guitars. It feels f**king good to do it“.

Either way, the guitar was put up for auction in order to raise money for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) at their GLAAD Media Awards recently, where it went for $101,500.

Anthony Ramos, GLAAD Media Awards supervising producer, revealed his pleasant surprise by the results of the auction: “I know she has a loyal fan base… Saturday night when I went to bed, it was around $18,000, and I was like, ‘That’s a great number!’ I was kind of hoping we would get to 25. Then I woke up and it was 40, then 50, then 80, and finally over 100“.
