‘Playmobil’ Movie Finds Its’ Director | Film News

Playmobil

Following in the footsteps of Lego is the less popular alternative Playmobil. Like Lego, they are also trying to get a movie set in their world of plastic off the ground and they have just landed themselves a director: Lino DiSalvo.

DiSalvo has previously spent 17 years at Disney, and even served as Head of Animation on the hugely-acclaimed Frozen.

It was in 2014 that we first heard news of a Playmobil movie when On Entertainment picked up their rights. They immediately went to DreamWorks Animation and hired Bob Persichetti to begin the development in an effort to expand the appeal of their newly acquired product in the same way Lego had done in 2014 with their popular The Lego Movie.

Speaking to Variety, DiSalvo had this to say on his new appointment:

I’ve learned most of my skills by growing up in the Disney system; I was very fortunate to work on films like ‘Tangled’ and ‘Frozen. I am thrilled at the prospect of developing the Playmobil film. As a father and a filmmaker, to create a film about your son’s favorite toy, what else do you want?

No doubt Lino DiSalvo is a perfect choice to head up On Entertainments’ film, but will it reach the same dizzying height of success that The Lego Movie did? We shall have to wait and see.
