Post Malone Covers Hootie And The Blowfish Classic ‘Only Wanna Be With You’ For Pokémon 25th Anniversary | Music News

To celebrate Pokémon’s 25th anniversary, the Pokémon company held a virtual concert last week headlined by American rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer Post Malone, with Post Malone saying, “I’ve been a Pokémon fan for a long time, so the opportunity to headline the Pokémon Day concert celebrating 25 years is awesome”.

A few days before the concert, the rapper released a cover of Hootie And The Blowfish’s 1995 classic “Only Wanna Be with You”, dubbed the ‘Pokémon 25 Version’ in order to celebrate the much anticipated event. This cover was also performed as part of Post Malone’s headlining appearance in the Pokémon Day virtual concert.

The reasons for the choice of this song have not been officially explained but according to rumours, the fact that “Only Wanna Be With You” was released in 1995 and Pokemon in 1996 might be part of it.

Post Malone’s virtual concert also kicked off the Pokémon Company’s P25 Music program, where it plans to partner with artists such as Katy Perry to produce new music “through the lens of Pokémon”, the company said.

The virtual concert was streamed for free on the official Pokémon YouTube and Twitch channels yesterday, February 27 at 7:00pm EST / 4:00pm PST.
